How PERKESO contributions work

  • SOCSO — Category 1 (under 60): employee 0.5%, employer 1.75%. Category 2 (60+ or foreign): employer-only 1.25%.
  • EIS — employee 0.2%, employer 0.2%; exempt for 60+ and foreign workers.
  • SKBBK (Lindung 24 Jam) — employee-only 0.75% from 1 June 2026, for everyone.
  • All three are calculated on the PERKESO contribution schedule, with wages capped at RM6,000.

Frequently asked questions

What are the SOCSO contribution rates?
Under Category 1 (employees under 60, citizens/PRs), the employee contributes 0.5% and the employer 1.75%. Under Category 2 (aged 60+, or foreign workers) it is employer-only at 1.25%, with no employee share. Wages are capped at RM6,000.
What is EIS and how much is it?
EIS (Employment Insurance System) provides temporary financial help if you lose your job. The employee and employer each contribute 0.2% of wages, up to the RM6,000 ceiling. Those aged 60+ and foreign workers are exempt.
What is the SOCSO/EIS wage ceiling?
Contributions are calculated on monthly wages up to RM6,000. Any wage above RM6,000 is treated as RM6,000 for SOCSO and EIS purposes.
What is SKBBK (Lindung 24 Jam)?
SKBBK is a new PERKESO contribution starting 1 June 2026. It is employee-only at 0.75% (rising in later years) on wages up to RM6,000, and applies to all employees — including those aged 60+ and foreign workers.
Are foreign workers covered by SOCSO and EIS?
Foreign workers are covered by SOCSO under Category 2 (employer-only 1.25%) but are not covered by EIS. They are, however, subject to the new SKBBK contribution from June 2026.
